Page one for emergency dentist Newcastle. Page one for dental implants. Position 9.7 for Invisalign. The transformation work for an established dental practice already at 7,000 clicks.
An established dental practice serving Newcastle and the surrounding area
An established Newcastle dental practice with strong local presence, but with rankings that didn't yet match the strength of the practice. Average position 40.7 (page four) across thousands of high-intent treatment queries. Six months on, the practice now holds page one for emergency dentist Newcastle, dental implants Newcastle and Invisalign Newcastle. Click-through rate is up 40%.
Where the newcastle dental practice started
The practice is well-established locally, with a clear range of treatment specialisms: Invisalign, dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, emergency care. The website was delivering a respectable 7,000+ organic clicks every six months, but it was doing so from average position 40.7. That's a lot of impressions translating into a relatively small slice of the available demand.
The challenge for the newcastle dental practice
Dental search is high-volume and high-intent. People searching ‘emergency dentist Newcastle’ at 9pm are not browsing. They're booking that night or tomorrow morning. People searching ‘dental implants Newcastle’ are months into a research process and ready to commit to a consultation. Sitting at average position 40 means almost all of that demand was finding competing practices instead.
Dental practices often face a particular SEO problem: the homepage tries to be everything to everyone, and the treatment pages either don't exist as proper landing experiences or are buried deep in the navigation. Each treatment is a different search intent. Each one needs its own dedicated home.
What we did
The work was about turning a generalist dental website into a coherent set of treatment-led landing experiences, then layering in the local SEO foundations underneath.
Treatment-led service pages. Built proper landing experiences for the priority treatments: Invisalign, dental implants, emergency dentistry, teeth whitening. Each one built around a single search intent, with pricing transparency, before-and-after content where appropriate, and clear booking pathways.
Geo-modified treatment pages. Every priority treatment got a Newcastle-targeted version. Not keyword-stuffed, just naturally written so a Newcastle searcher lands on a page that clearly serves them, and so Google understands which treatments the practice serves which areas.
Healthcare provider schema. Medical and dental schema markup, NHS and private treatment markup where appropriate, review schema, opening hours, accepted insurance. The structured data signals that help Google understand this is a real, regulated dental practice.
Local SEO foundations. Google Business Profile rebuilt around the priority treatments, treatment-specific Q&A in the GBP, local citations cleaned and consistent across directories.
Six months on
New page one rankings:
- Emergency dentist Newcastle (position 6.6)
- Dentist Newcastle (position 9.1)
- Dental implants Newcastle (position 9.7)
- Invisalign Newcastle (position 9.7)
Six months on, organic clicks rose modestly from 7,173 to 7,655. The big shift, though, is in click-through rate (up 40%) and average position, which moved from 40.7 to 27.4. The 7% click lift on a 7,000-clicks base is also a meaningful absolute number, equivalent to almost 500 additional new-patient enquiry windows over the period.
How it shows up in search
The headline wins are the treatment-specific ones. Position 6.6 for ‘emergency dentist Newcastle’. Position 9.7 for ‘dental implants Newcastle’ and ‘Invisalign Newcastle’. Position 9.1 for ‘dentist Newcastle’ on its own. Position 3.4 for ‘dentist Gosforth’ (the precise local catchment). Each of these represents a high-intent search where the practice now appears on page one.
Page one rankings:
- Emergency dentist Newcastle (position 6.6)
- Dentist Newcastle (position 9.1)
- Dentist Gosforth (position 3.4)
- Dental implants Newcastle (position 9.7)
- Invisalign Newcastle (position 9.7)
- Teeth whitening Newcastle (position 10)
Why this worked
For any established dental practice with a respectable but underperforming website, the lesson is that treatment-led architecture is non-negotiable. The homepage cannot be the page that ranks for ‘dental implants Newcastle’. It needs its own page, properly built, properly linked, with content that matches what a patient researching that treatment actually wants to read. The practice that builds for this wins the high-value bookings.
Three things this case study tells us
- Treatment-led pages beat the all-in-one homepage. Every priority treatment needs its own dedicated landing experience. Patients searching for Invisalign and patients searching for emergency dentistry are looking for fundamentally different things. Build for that.
- Position 40 isn't your ceiling. It's your starting line. Established practices often think the rankings have settled. They haven't. Average position has plenty of room to move when the underlying architecture gets the work it needs.
- Dental search is local plus treatment, not local on its own. ‘Dentist Newcastle’ is broad. ‘Invisalign Newcastle’ is the booking. The treatment-plus-location queries convert dramatically better than the location-only ones.
