What we stand for

The positions we will defend, and who we are for.

Values are easy to write and hard to check. So this page states the things a generic agency would not: the stances we will argue for, the clients we turn down, and how we actually work. Facts, not adjectives.

Our mission

Our job is to help you get found on Google and in AI search, and turn that visibility into enquiries: sort the technical foundations, sharpen the pages that earn the work, and build a plan around what people actually search for and how AI now answers them. We measure it in conversions, not ranking positions. And we grow the business the same way we run the work, deliberately and without bloat, so quality does not slip and no single client, or single person, becomes a point of failure.

What we value

Five values, filled in with what we actually do.

01

Authentic

We publish the founding story as it actually happened, not the tidy version. BrisTechTonic did not spot a gap in the market and set out to build something better. It grew from neighbours in Bristol asking Chris for help with things he could already do, over roughly four years of evenings and weekends, until he left his job as a solutions architect in January 2023. We also correct ourselves in public: we had llms.txt logged as a build task, then found the evidence said it does nothing, so we said so.

Checkable: The January 2023 full-time date and the llms.txt reversal, both on record.

02

Empowering

You should be able to judge us on what actually moved, so we do not bill or report by the hour. We think hours are the wrong unit and results are the right one, and in the AI era that means conversions rather than ranking positions. Our pricing sits openly on the service pages rather than behind a quote, so you can compare before you ever speak to us.

Checkable: No hourly billing, conversions over rankings, and pricing published rather than quoted privately.

03

Integrity

We say who we are not for, in public, because it is more useful than pretending we suit everyone. We turn down tobacco, weapons and oil. We are a poor fit for anyone expecting overnight results, because SEO is a long-term investment and we would rather say so than sell a fantasy. And we never guarantee anything, of any kind, because no honest SEO agency can.

Checkable: The named excluded sectors, and the flat no-guarantees rule.

04

Curious

Chris came into this through systems, not marketing, so we build our own tooling rather than renting five subscriptions and living with the gaps. Our diagnosis runs technical first, then pages, then a plan, then content shaped around how AI reads context, which is the reverse of the keyword-first order most agencies open with. Where the evidence for an AI-era tactic is thin, we say it is thin and say what we would test instead.

Checkable: Tooling built in-house, and a technical-then-pages-then-plan order versus keyword-first.

05

Collaborative

We know our own shape. Coming from IT rather than marketing, Chris relies on designers and copywriters to execute well, and we would rather name that than hide it. We still work alongside specialist web builders and have not replaced them; when we build a site it is usually for an existing client refreshing an older one. For other agencies, we come in under white label to add experienced SEO on the projects that need it.

Checkable: Partner web builders kept on, and white-label capability offered to other agencies.

Positions we will defend

The arguable bits, stated plainly.

  • llms.txt does not work. When it was tested, no crawlers attempted to visit the file at all.
  • Technical first, always, before pages, plan or content.
  • Traditional link-building no longer works. Earned PR mentions replace it, which is why we stopped selling monthly backlinks.
  • Hours are the wrong way to judge SEO. Results are the right way.
  • The industry over-relies on keyword research, at the expense of context and the way AI now reads a page.
  • Rankings are no longer the metric that matters. Conversions are.
Who we do not work with

Saying who we are not for is more useful.

  • Tobacco, weapons and oil. We turn these sectors down.
  • Anyone expecting overnight success. SEO is a long-term investment, and it works best for clients who treat it as one.
  • Anyone whose expectations run well beyond the budget behind them. We can usually tell early, and it is fairer to say so than to take the work.
  • The engagement goes best when we are trusted to lead the method we recommend.
