Brand Search

Brand search is any Google search that includes your business name, for example BrisTechTonic SEO or Coca-Cola jobs. Branded queries signal awareness and intent, and they convert far higher than non-brand traffic, both organic and paid. Growth in branded volume is a strong leading indicator of overall marketing effectiveness.

What is brand search?

Brand search is any Google search that includes your business name. Examples include BrisTechTonic SEO, Coca-Cola jobs and Apple support. Branded searches signal awareness, intent and customer demand, and they are the cheapest, highest-converting traffic in any search profile, both organic and paid.

Why brand search volume matters

Three reasons brand search is one of the most useful SEO metrics: - **It measures real awareness.** Branded volume only grows when more people know about your business. Campaigns, PR, content and word of mouth all show up here. - **It converts at extreme rates.** Brand search visitors already know who you are, and they convert at roughly 5 to 10 times the rate of non-brand search. - **It is the canary for SEO health.** Drops in branded volume often signal something deeper, such as reputation issues, market shifts or audience erosion. See also branded keywords for the keyword side of this metric.

How to track brand search

1. **Google Search Console.** Filter the Performance report for queries containing your brand name, then track impressions and clicks over time. 2. **Google Trends.** Shows brand interest over time and across regions, useful for trend analysis. 3. **Google Ads keyword planner.** Reveals branded search volume estimates for your business name and variations. 4. **Semrush and Ahrefs.** Show your share of branded queries plus competitor brand search. For analytics-side reporting, the GA4 setup docs cover how to align channel reporting with branded search performance.

Common questions

Brand Search: common questions.

Should I bid on my own brand in Google Ads?

Almost always yes. Brand keywords have very low CPCs, very high Quality Scores and very high conversion rates. Defending the top of the page also stops competitors showing up on your brand searches.

How is brand search different from direct traffic?

Brand search appears in Google Analytics as organic traffic from search engines. Direct traffic is users typing your URL straight into the browser. Both indicate brand awareness, but they are measured separately.

Is branded organic search a vanity metric?

No. Sustained brand search growth is one of the strongest signals of marketing effectiveness, especially for businesses without easy direct attribution. Use it as a leading indicator of broader SEO and brand health.

How do I grow brand search volume?

Anything that builds awareness: content marketing, PR, partnerships, paid social and sponsored events. Brand search is a downstream metric of all marketing activity, not a single channel you can directly optimise.

What clients say about working with us.

“I've had the pleasure of working with Chris on several SEO projects for my websites in the health field. He was definitely been able to demystify things so that I felt able to make decisions with him and feel confident they were the right ones. For a non-techie, that is worth gold! I look forward to working with Chris again and warmly recommend him to anyone who - like me - is unsure about all things SEO.”

Biliana Avramova

“I was recommended by my branding partner to use Chris and his team last year. I can’t recommend them highly enough. They are very responsive , easy to communicate with and great at translating techy stuff when needed. They are now an essential part of my business model”

Sandra Webber

“We've been working closely with Chris, Hannah and the team for over 12 months now. As a small company with ambitious growth plans, it was incredibly important that we made the right choice on who to trust with our SEO. 18 months later, we're totally thrilled with our experience so far and our growing online presence within our market. We'd happily recommend BTT and their services to other SMEs. Drop them an enquiry!”
