BrisTechTonic is a Bristol SEO agency that helps UK businesses get found on Google, the local map pack and the AI assistants they now ask, like ChatGPT and Perplexity. Conversion tracking is the setup that records what people do after they click your ad, such as buying or making an enquiry, so the ad platforms can improve and you can report honestly. Done right it ties together Google Analytics, Google Ads and the cookie-consent rules Google now requires, checked so that no genuine sale is missed and none is counted twice. BrisTechTonic sets it up so nothing is double-counted, so it respects people's cookie choices, and so it is tested before you rely on it. That way the ad platforms learn from real results, not noise. Get the measurement wrong and every decision built on top of it is wrong too.
Conversion tracking is the least glamorous part of paid media and the most consequential. Every automated bid strategy, every budget shift and every line in every report is only as good as the measurement feeding it. If your tracking double-counts purchases, fires on the wrong events, or silently drops a chunk of conversions to privacy restrictions, then Google's algorithms are optimising to a distorted picture and your reports are confidently wrong. This is where a surprising number of accounts are broken without anyone realising, because the dashboards still show numbers and the numbers still look plausible.

The modern measurement stack has three moving parts that have to work together. GA4 is now the analytics backbone, event-based and quite different from the Universal Analytics most setups were built around, and it is easy to configure so that events and conversions do not line up with what Google Ads records. Google Ads conversion tracking has its own actions, attribution settings and values that need to agree with GA4 rather than contradict it. And Consent Mode v2, now required for Google to use data from EEA and UK users, changes how and whether tags fire at all based on the choices people make in your consent banner.
On top of that sits the erosion of tracking. Browsers cap cookie lifetimes, privacy features block third-party tags, and ad blockers remove a slice of measurement entirely. We answer this with durable first-party collection: first-party GA4 signals, enhanced conversions matched on hashed first-party data, Consent Mode modelling for declined consent, and offline conversion imports from your CRM. That recovers most of what privacy restrictions take, and feeds the platforms real revenue rather than a thank-you page, without the cost, hosting and maintenance of a server-side container.
We treat all of this as one connected job, done once and done properly, then validated. This is measurement engineering, not reporting: the reporting sits downstream and only tells the truth if the tracking underneath it does. Experienced people run these builds, and we would rather spend the first weeks getting your measurement right than start spending against numbers we cannot trust.
Buying intent is up for auction. Paid puts you at the front of it.
These are industry figures, not our own results, and we do not invent numbers. They show why intent-led paid can pay for itself where broad awareness spend does not. We manage to contribution margin, and no return is ever guaranteed.
What does Conversion tracking cover?
GA4 configuration and event mapping
A GA4 setup where events, key events and conversions actually reflect your business: the right actions tracked, values assigned properly, and the data lined up with Google Ads rather than quietly contradicting it. Most GA4 accounts we inherit were migrated in a hurry and never reconciled.
Explore →Google Ads conversion tracking
Conversion actions defined deliberately, with primary and secondary conversions set so smart bidding optimises to the outcomes that matter, correct attribution and values, and the deduplication that stops one sale being counted several times across tags and imports.
Consent Mode v2 implementation
Consent Mode v2 wired into your consent banner so tags respect user choices for EEA and UK visitors, with conversion modelling recovering data lawfully where consent is declined. Done so you meet the requirement and keep usable measurement, not one at the expense of the other.
Durable first-party collection
First-party GA4 signals, enhanced conversions matched on hashed first-party data, and Consent Mode modelling, so you recover conversions lost to browser restrictions and ad blockers and keep signal quality high, without standing up and hosting a server-side container.
Enhanced conversions and offline import
Enhanced conversions and, where relevant, offline conversion import so first-party data and sales that close off-site are fed back into the platforms, sharpening bidding on the outcomes that genuinely make you money rather than just the on-site clicks.
Validation and ongoing QA
Debugging with real events, tag and trigger checks, and cross-checks between GA4, Google Ads and your back-end, so the numbers agree before spend rides on them, plus periodic QA to catch the breakages that creep in when sites change.

What clients say about working with us.
“I've had the pleasure of working with Chris on several SEO projects for my websites in the health field. He was definitely been able to demystify things so that I felt able to make decisions with him and feel confident they were the right ones. For a non-techie, that is worth gold! I look forward to working with Chris again and warmly recommend him to anyone who - like me - is unsure about all things SEO.”
“I was recommended by my branding partner to use Chris and his team last year. I can’t recommend them highly enough. They are very responsive , easy to communicate with and great at translating techy stuff when needed. They are now an essential part of my business model”
“We've been working closely with Chris, Hannah and the team for over 12 months now. As a small company with ambitious growth plans, it was incredibly important that we made the right choice on who to trust with our SEO. 18 months later, we're totally thrilled with our experience so far and our growing online presence within our market. We'd happily recommend BTT and their services to other SMEs. Drop them an enquiry!”

The way we run Conversion tracking.
Audit the current measurement
We start by finding out what your tracking is actually recording: duplicated conversions, misfiring events, consent gaps, GA4 and Google Ads figures that do not reconcile, and data lost to browser restrictions. Most accounts have at least one of these, and usually more.
Map what should be measured
We agree the actions that matter and what each is worth, then set primary and secondary conversions deliberately, so the platforms optimise to real business outcomes rather than every micro-event that happens to be trackable.
Rebuild the tracking
GA4 events and conversions configured cleanly, Google Ads conversion actions defined and deduplicated, and the two lined up so they tell the same story rather than two different ones.
Add consent and first-party recovery
Consent Mode v2 implemented against your banner so measurement is lawful, plus enhanced conversions and offline conversion imports to recover conversions and improve signal quality, without a server-side container.
Validate before trusting it
We test with real events, check tags and triggers fire correctly, and reconcile GA4, Google Ads and your back-end figures, so no bid strategy or report rides on numbers we have not verified.
Monitor and re-check
Sites change, tags break, and consent tools update. One experienced lead keeps the measurement under review and re-checks it periodically, so the tracking that was right at launch stays right.
How do we approach Conversion tracking?
Measurement is the foundation, not a bolt-on
How the ad platforms spend your money, the budget calls you make, and the reports you read all depend on what your tracking tells them. If sales are counted twice, missed, or recorded against the wrong action, the ad platforms chase a made-up picture and the reports back it up. We fix the measurement first, because everything built on top of it is only as good as the numbers underneath.
Count real actions, deduplicated
One purchase should count as one sale, at the right value, once. We work out which customer actions actually matter, decide which ones to count as the main goals, and clear out the double-counting and ghost sales that make an account look like it is doing better than it really is.
Consent Mode v2, done lawfully
Google now requires you to handle cookie consent properly before it will use data from UK and EU visitors, and this changes what gets recorded depending on what people choose in your cookie banner. We set it up correctly so you respect people's choices and still get a reliable estimate of the sales you cannot directly see, rather than either breaking your measurement or quietly ignoring the rules.
Durable first-party measurement
Browser privacy settings, ad blockers and cookies that expire quickly all chip away at your tracking. We shore it up using your own visitor data and Google's built-in tools to fill the gaps, so you keep measuring the truth, without the extra cost and hassle of running your own tracking server.
Real people doing the work, and putting their name to it.
You deal with our small, experienced Bristol team directly, from the first call to every monthly report.

Are we the right fit for you?
Thinking of switching from another agency?

A free look first
We review what your current agency has done, tell you straight what is worth keeping and where the quick wins are. No obligation to move.
You keep what's yours

A clean handover
We map the work across, set a plain-English baseline in the first few weeks, and carry on from there. No starting from zero, no quiet ranking gap.
Three-month minimum, then rolling monthly on 30 days’ notice. No long lock-in, no exit fees.
Who sets up your measurement, and how?
Get the tracking wrong and every decision after it is built on sand. BrisTechTonic is the trading name of Bryley Ltd, an experienced team with years of combined experience, and the person who builds and validates your conversion tracking treats GA4, Google Ads, Consent Mode v2 and first-party conversion recovery as one connected system, not a tag-manager template passed to someone cheaper. We treat measurement as the foundation the whole account rests on, validate before we trust it, and will tell you plainly when your tracking is misleading you.
Experienced people do the work
The person who audits your tracking is the person who rebuilds and validates it. No measurement build is parked and left to run from a template, because a small error here quietly corrupts every decision above it.
Validated, not assumed
We test with real events and reconcile GA4, Google Ads and your back-end before spend rides on the data. If the numbers do not agree, we find out why rather than pick the flattering one.
Honest about what is trackable
Privacy rules and browser restrictions mean not everything can be measured perfectly, and anyone claiming otherwise is guessing. We recover what can be recovered lawfully, model the rest properly, and are clear about the limits.
Conversion tracking: common questions.
What is conversion tracking?
Conversion tracking is the setup that records what people do after they click your ad: purchases, enquiries, sign-ups and the other actions that matter. It tells the ad platforms what is working so they can spend your money better, and it feeds your reports so you can judge performance. Done properly it ties together Google Analytics, Google Ads, the cookie-consent rules Google requires, and your own customer data, all checked so they tell the same story.
Do I need server-side tracking?
Usually not. Server-side tracking means running your own tracking server, which recovers some data but adds real cost and upkeep. For most businesses we get the same result a simpler way: using your own visitor and customer data, Google's built-in tools to fill gaps, and by feeding back sales that close later from your customer records. We focus on getting that genuinely right rather than selling you kit you do not need.
What is Consent Mode v2 and is it required?
It is Google's rules for how your tracking behaves depending on what UK and EU visitors choose in your cookie banner. Google requires it before it will use data from those visitors. Set up properly, it lets you respect people's choices and still get a reliable estimate of the sales you cannot directly see when someone declines cookies, so you meet the rules without losing all your measurement. We connect it to your cookie banner and test that it works as it should.
Why do my GA4 and Google Ads numbers not match?
They rarely match exactly, because the two tools count things in slightly different ways, but a big gap usually means something is broken: sales counted twice, actions recorded against the wrong thing, cookie choices dropping data, or the two tools measuring over different time windows. We line them up so any difference is small and easy to explain, rather than a mystery that undermines every decision you make from the numbers.
How is this different from your reporting work?
Conversion tracking is the measurement engineering underneath; reporting is what sits on top. The reporting only tells the truth if the tracking is right, so we fix the measurement first. If you want the ongoing dashboards and honest monthly reporting built on that foundation, that is covered in our wider reporting and Paid & AI ads work.
Can you fix tracking that is already broken?
Yes, and it is often the first thing we do. We check what your current setup is actually recording, find the sales counted twice, the actions recorded wrongly and the cookie-consent gaps, rebuild your Google Analytics and Google Ads tracking cleanly, and test it with real visits before any advertising relies on it. One-off tracking fixes are quoted as a fixed project where you do not need us on an ongoing basis.
