Ad Schedule

An ad schedule, also called dayparting, lets you specify which days of the week and hours of the day your Google Ads run. It helps you avoid spending budget at times you cannot convert and bid more aggressively when performance is strong.

Ad Schedule, explained properly.

•Ad scheduling is also known as dayparting.
•Set it under Campaign settings, then Ad schedule, in Google Ads.
•Base any schedule on at least 30 days of conversion data segmented by day and hour, not on assumptions.
•Cutting bids by 50 to 80 percent during low-conversion overnight hours redirects budget to peak times.

What is an ad schedule?

An ad schedule (also called dayparting) lets you specify which days of the week and hours of the day your Google Ads run. For example, a plumber running ads at 2am wastes budget because calls cannot be answered, whereas scheduling 7am to 8pm on weekdays improves effectiveness.

How to set up an ad schedule

Navigate to Campaign settings, then Ad schedule, in Google Ads to set specific hours per day and disable ads on certain days.

Bid adjustments by time

Increase bids during high-converting periods (for example, plus 20 percent on Friday mornings) to compete more aggressively when performance data shows a strong conversion likelihood.

Reviewing schedule performance

Check conversion data by hour and day in Reports, then Schedule report, before implementing any schedule. Build strategies on actual data rather than assumptions.

How ad scheduling works

Set hourly operation windows daily, then apply bid adjustments (for example, plus 20 percent during peak conversion hours, minus 50 percent overnight). Ads disable outside scheduled times.

How to find the right schedule

1. Pull 30 or more days of conversion data segmented by day and hour. 2. Identify high-CPA hours and days above the account average. 3. Find below-average conversion rate periods. 4. Apply scheduling cuts or negative adjustments to poor performers. 5. Re-evaluate quarterly for seasonal shifts.

Common questions

Ad Schedule: common questions.

Should every account use ad scheduling?

Most should. Even simple time-of-day bid adjustments can meaningfully reduce wasted spend. The exception is very low-volume accounts without reliable conversion patterns, which should gather data first.

Does ad scheduling work with Smart Bidding?

Yes, but with limitations. Smart Bidding already uses time-of-day signals. A conservative approach is to use scheduling only for operation hours, not bid adjustments, when using Smart Bidding.

How do I find peak conversion hours?

Google Ads' Hour of Day and Day of Week reports show conversion rate, CPA, and volume. Use custom reports for cross-tab analysis with a minimum of 30 days of data.

Can ad scheduling save budget?

Yes. A common pattern is cutting bids by 50 to 80 percent during low-conversion overnight hours, which redirects budget to peak times where it produces conversions.

“I've had the pleasure of working with Chris on several SEO projects for my websites in the health field. He was definitely been able to demystify things so that I felt able to make decisions with him and feel confident they were the right ones. For a non-techie, that is worth gold! I look forward to working with Chris again and warmly recommend him to anyone who - like me - is unsure about all things SEO.”
