Dynamic Search Ads (DSA)

Dynamic Search Ads (DSAs) are a Google Ads campaign type that automatically generates ad headlines from the content of your website rather than a manual keyword list. Google crawls your pages, matches them to searches and writes the headline, while you write the description.

In depth

Dynamic Search Ads (DSA), explained properly.

•Google generates DSA headlines from your page content; you only control the descriptions.

What are Dynamic Search Ads?

Dynamic Search Ads automatically generate ad headlines and match them to relevant searches based on your website content. Google crawls your site, decides which pages fit a search, then writes the headline for you while you supply the description.

How DSAs work

1. Google crawls your website or the pages you specify. 2. A user runs a search that Google matches to your site content. 3. Google generates a relevant headline based on the page. 4. You provide the descriptions, and Google uses your page as the landing page. You can define page targets as the whole site, specific URLs or page categories. Google indexes those pages and matches them to queries. Only the descriptions are fully under your control.

When DSAs work well

- Large ecommerce sites with thousands of product pages. - Filling keyword gaps and surfacing queries you have not targeted. - Established sites with strong, clear content. - Long-tail discovery where manual keywords cannot cover every variation.

When DSAs cause problems

- Tight budgets, because DSAs can match broadly and burn through spend. - Thin or unclear site content. - Sites with multiple product lines or services, where matching gets messy. - Auto-generated headlines can sometimes be inaccurate, so they need watching.

Take this further

DSAs work best as a discovery layer alongside well-built Search campaigns, used tactically rather than as your default.

Common questions

Dynamic Search Ads (DSA): common questions.

Should I use DSAs in my account?

They are useful as a complement, not a replacement. The most reliable structure is to run conventional Search campaigns on your highest-intent keywords and use a DSA campaign as a discovery layer beneath them.

How do I prevent DSAs from wasting budget?

Three controls: tight page targets, aggressive negative keywords, and a daily budget cap kept separate from your other campaigns. Review the Search Terms report weekly during the first month.

Are DSAs the same as Performance Max?

No. DSAs are Search-only with dynamic headlines. Performance Max is all-channel and automated. DSAs give you more visibility into what you are targeting.

Can DSAs work with Smart Bidding?

Yes. Combining DSAs with Target CPA or Maximise Conversions lets Google match queries dynamically while optimising bids toward conversion outcomes.

“I've had the pleasure of working with Chris on several SEO projects for my websites in the health field. He was definitely been able to demystify things so that I felt able to make decisions with him and feel confident they were the right ones. For a non-techie, that is worth gold! I look forward to working with Chris again and warmly recommend him to anyone who - like me - is unsure about all things SEO.”

Biliana Avramova

“I was recommended by my branding partner to use Chris and his team last year. I can’t recommend them highly enough. They are very responsive , easy to communicate with and great at translating techy stuff when needed. They are now an essential part of my business model”

Sandra Webber

“We've been working closely with Chris, Hannah and the team for over 12 months now. As a small company with ambitious growth plans, it was incredibly important that we made the right choice on who to trust with our SEO. 18 months later, we're totally thrilled with our experience so far and our growing online presence within our market. We'd happily recommend BTT and their services to other SMEs. Drop them an enquiry!”
