Celebrating 10 Years of Fundraising: How the Community Came Together for Winston's Wish

From Amsterdam to London: Olivia's Incredible Journey to Support Winston's Wish

In March 2023, BrisTechTonic had the incredible opportunity to support Walk for Winston's Wish Black Tie Ball, an event organised by family members in support of the amazing Winston's Wish charity.

10 years ago Olivia and Harvey lost their mum, and Russell his wife - Caroline.

Every March, for the past 10 years, Olivia, Harvey and Russell have organised an annual walk, nicknamed Walk for Winston's Wish, in aid of the charity. Winston's Wish provided invaluable support to the family following their loss and they wanted to get the local community together to recognise and celebrate Winston's Wish, whilst also hoping to raise some money for them also.

Who are Winston's Wish?

Winston's Wish is a UK-based charity that provides support to children who have been bereaved or are facing the loss of a loved one. The charity was founded in 1992 to help bereaved children, young people and their families.

Winston's Wish understands that losing a loved one can be a traumatic and difficult experience for children. That's why they offer a range of services and support to help children and their families cope with their grief and come to terms with their loss.

One of the key services offered by Winston's Wish is bereavement support. The charity has a team of specialist practitioners who work with children and young people to help them understand and manage their grief. This can include one-on-one counseling, group therapy, and family support.

Winston's Wish also offers practical support to families, including advice on how to talk to children about death, information on legal and financial matters, and guidance on how to plan a funeral or memorial service.

In addition to these services, Winston's Wish runs a number of programs and initiatives to help raise awareness about the needs of grieving children and to promote healthy grieving practices. These include training for professionals who work with children, community outreach programs, and research into the impact of bereavement on children and young people.

Winston's Wish recognizes that every child's experience of grief is unique, and they tailor their support to meet the individual needs of each child and family. The charity's approach is child-centered, which means that they focus on putting the child's needs and wishes at the center of their support.

Overall, Winston's Wish is a vital resource for children and families who are dealing with the loss of a loved one. The charity's services and support can help children and families navigate the difficult journey of grief, and help them find a way to move forward with their lives.

2023 - 10 Marathons in 10 days for the 10th Year

Olivia, Harvey, and Russell hosted a Black Tie ball to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their fundraising efforts for Winston's Wish. The event was a huge success, with attendees enjoying a night of dancing, entertainment, and fundraising.

To commemorate the occasion, Olivia and her partner embarked on an incredible journey: they walked from Amsterdam to London and completed 10 marathons in 10 days. Their efforts helped raise awareness and funds for Winston's Wish, and showed that anything is possible with determination and perseverance. You can see some of what they got up to on their Instagram account.

BrisTechTonic was proud to sponsor the event for the evening, for the incredible venue Moor Park Golf Club put on a visually stunning show of the evening.

Olivia's efforts raise over £15,000 from this event, taking the total raised to £45,000 over a decade long fundraising campaign.

The Night

The Black Tie ball was a night to remember. Guests were treated to a live band playing a mix of classic hits and contemporary favorites, and delicious canapés were served throughout the evening.

There were also speeches from some of the event organisers and representatives from Winston's Wish, who shared stories of the charity's impact and the importance of supporting children who are dealing with loss.

But it wasn't all serious – there was plenty of fun, laughter, and dancing as well. The event was a chance for guests to come together, celebrate the 10th anniversary of the fundraising efforts, and show their support for Winston's Wish.

One of the highlights of the evening was the legacy left by Olivia's 10-day walk from Amsterdam to London. Her incredible journey helped raise awareness and funds for Winston's Wish, and showed that with determination and perseverance, anything is possible. The legacy of her walk will continue to inspire and motivate others to support this important charity.

The event was a wonderful celebration of community, charity, and the power of giving back.
