BrisTechTonic is a Bristol SEO agency that helps UK businesses get found on Google, the local map pack and the AI assistants they now ask, like ChatGPT and Perplexity. Google My Business management is the ongoing work of improving and looking after your free Google listing so it competes in the map results at the top of local searches and in Google Maps. It covers picking the right business categories and details, keeping your name, address and phone number the same everywhere they appear online, getting reviews and replying to them, posting updates and photos, and protecting the listing against unwanted edits and suspensions. Done properly it turns a static listing into a steady source of calls, directions requests and enquiries from people already close to buying.
Your free Google listing, still widely called Google My Business, is often the first thing a nearby buyer sees and the one they act on fastest. A tap to call, a request for directions, a quick look at your reviews and opening hours: these are decisions made in seconds by people already close to buying. That makes the listing one of the most valuable things you own, and yet it is usually the most neglected. The category left on the default, half the details blank, a description written once and forgotten, reviews unanswered for months. The listing exists, but it is not working.

Managing it well is genuinely different from ordinary SEO. Showing up in the local map results comes down to three things: how relevant you are, how close you are, and how well known and trusted you are. Each of those is shaped by things your website cannot touch: the categories you choose, whether your name, address and phone number match everywhere online, how many recent reviews you have, and the trust Google reads from your photos, posts and answered questions. It is also live and open to change. Anyone can suggest an edit to your hours or address, competitors can report your listing, and Google can suspend it over a change you did not even make. A listing is not something you set up once; it is something that has to be run.
We manage Google listings as an ongoing account, not a one-off tidy-up. That means getting the basics genuinely right, the categories, services, details and a description that reflects how you actually trade, then working on the things that move month to month: reviews, posts, photos, answered questions, and keeping your details consistent everywhere Google checks. Where you have more than one location or serve a wider area from no fixed shopfront, we handle each one properly rather than copying one template across a map.
This is experienced work by design. Our experienced team has spent years working on local and free Google search. Choosing the right categories, getting a suspended listing reinstated, and working out why one competitor beats you in the map results are judgement calls, not a checklist, and they are exactly the calls we take on for the businesses other agencies found awkward.
When the job is local, search is the shortlist.
These are industry figures, not our own results, and we do not invent numbers. Local intent converts fast, and the map pack and profile decide who gets the call. No outcome is ever guaranteed.
Google Business Profile, broken down.
Profile optimisation and categories
We set the main category that most closely matches your core business, add the extra categories that genuinely apply, and fill in the services, details and description that give Google reasons to show you. Your category is one of the biggest things you can influence in the local map results, and the wrong main category quietly holds everything else back.
Reviews: generation and response →
A steady flow of recent, genuine reviews and a reply to every one, good or bad. We build a simple, repeatable way of asking that fits how you actually work, never paid-for or fake reviews, because those break Google's rules and put your whole listing at risk.
NAP consistency and citations →
Your name, address and phone number kept exactly the same across your Google listing, your website and the other directories Google checks against. Listings that contradict each other are a common, hidden drag on local rankings, and tidying them up is often the fastest win available.
Posts, photos and Q&A
Regular posts, up-to-date photos tagged with your location, and a monitored questions-and-answers section that you have seeded with the common ones, all keep the listing active and answer the questions buyers ask before they call. An active listing reads as a trustworthy one to both people and Google.
Multi-location and service-area profiles
Whether that is several branches or a business that visits customers rather than having a shopfront, each location handled as its own proper listing with the correct areas covered and matching details, rather than one listing stretched across a map it cannot believably serve.
Defence, edits and suspension recovery
We keep an eye out for suggested edits, competitors reporting you, and rule changes, fix bad edits quickly, and handle getting your listing back if it is suspended. A listing you do not watch is one that competitors and Google can change without telling you.

What clients say about working with us.
“I've had the pleasure of working with Chris on several SEO projects for my websites in the health field. He was definitely been able to demystify things so that I felt able to make decisions with him and feel confident they were the right ones. For a non-techie, that is worth gold! I look forward to working with Chris again and warmly recommend him to anyone who - like me - is unsure about all things SEO.”
“I was recommended by my branding partner to use Chris and his team last year. I can’t recommend them highly enough. They are very responsive , easy to communicate with and great at translating techy stuff when needed. They are now an essential part of my business model”
“We've been working closely with Chris, Hannah and the team for over 12 months now. As a small company with ambitious growth plans, it was incredibly important that we made the right choice on who to trust with our SEO. 18 months later, we're totally thrilled with our experience so far and our growing online presence within our market. We'd happily recommend BTT and their services to other SMEs. Drop them an enquiry!”

The way we run Google Business Profile.
Audit and verify
We review your current listing against your competitors in the local map results, confirm you own and have verified it, and find the gaps: weak categories, missing details, a name, address or phone number that does not match everywhere, thin reviews, or edits that have slipped through. You get a clear picture of where you stand before anything changes.
Fix the foundations
Categories, services, details, description, hours, photos and contact information all corrected and filled in, and any other listings across the web that disagree with your Google listing brought into line so nothing contradicts it.
Stand up the review engine
We set up a simple, repeatable way of asking for reviews that follows Google's rules and fits how you work, and we take on replying to reviews so responses are prompt, consistent and sound like you.
Run the monthly cadence
Posts, fresh photos, keeping the questions-and-answers section up to date, replying to reviews, and checking your details across the web, all handled on a regular rhythm, so the listing stays active rather than sliding back into neglect.
Monitor and defend
Ongoing watch for suggested edits, competitor mischief, categories being changed, and anything that risks a suspension, with quick fixes and help getting the listing back when something goes wrong.
Report against what matters
Calls, directions requests, website clicks and how visible you are in the local map results, tracked over time alongside your local website pages, so you can see the enquiries the listing is actually bringing in.
How do we approach Google Business Profile?
Profile built to rank, not just to exist
The main and secondary business categories, your services, the extra details, and a genuine description, all chosen to fit what you actually do, because your category is one of the strongest things you can influence to show up in local map results.
Reviews as a system, not an afterthought
A simple, repeatable way to earn fresh, genuine reviews and reply to every one, since how many reviews you have, how recent they are and what they say all help you show up locally and win the click that follows.
Consistency Google can cross-check
Your name, address and phone number kept exactly the same across your listing, your website and the other directories Google checks against, so nothing contradicts itself and weakens your standing.
Defended and monitored
We keep an eye out for suggested edits, competitor mischief, category changes and anything that might get your listing suspended, and step in before a quiet change costs you visibility you had already earned.
Real people doing the work, and putting their name to it.
You deal with our small, experienced Bristol team directly, from the first call to every monthly report.

Are we the right fit for you?
Thinking of switching from another agency?
Moving your Google Business Profile to us is more straightforward than staying somewhere that is not working. You keep everything you already own, we pick up without a gap, and we can run the whole thing for you or work alongside your team and your developers, whatever suits.
A free look first
We review what your current agency has done, tell you straight what is worth keeping and where the quick wins are. No obligation to move.
You keep what's yours
Your site, content, Google Business Profile and analytics stay in your name. We work with what you already have; nothing is held hostage.
A clean handover
We map the work across, set a plain-English baseline in the first few weeks, and carry on from there. No starting from zero, no quiet ranking gap.
Three-month minimum, then rolling monthly on 30 days’ notice. No long lock-in, no exit fees.
Who does the work, and how we run it?
Managing a Google listing is easy to do badly and quietly costly when it goes wrong, from a wrongly set category that holds back your reach to a suspension that pulls you off the map overnight. We run it as experienced, hands-on work, sticking to Google's own rules rather than shortcuts that risk the listing, and we measure it against the enquiries it brings in rather than counts that just look good.
Experienced practitioners only
Our experienced team does the work directly, with deep experience across local and free Google search. Your account is run on experienced judgement, not a template.
Inside Google's guidelines
We stick to Google's rules for listings, never fake or paid-for reviews, business names stuffed with search terms, or made-up locations, because those shortcuts get listings hidden or suspended and are not worth the risk to something this valuable.
Measured on enquiries
Calls, directions requests and clicks are the point, so that is what we report, alongside how visible you are in the local map results and how your wider local pages are doing. No promises on rankings, which nobody can honestly make, just steady work we stand behind.

Google Business Profile: common questions.
Is Google My Business the same as Google Business Profile?
Yes. Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile, and dropped the separate app, but the free listing that appears in the local map results and Google Maps is the same thing. People still search for both names, so we use them to mean the same thing.
What does Google My Business management actually include?
Improving the listing itself, the categories, services, details and description, then the ongoing work: earning and replying to reviews, publishing posts and photos, keeping your name, address and phone number the same across the web, and watching for edits or a suspension. It is the ongoing running of a live listing, not a one-off setup.
How long until we see results in the map pack?
Basic fixes such as the categories and details can start to help within weeks, while reviews, consistent details and becoming better known build over months. It depends on your starting point and how competitive your area and trade are. We will be honest about what is realistic before we start, and we never promise a position.
Do we need a physical address to rank locally?
To appear in the local map results, you need a location Google can verify or a defined area you cover, and Google needs to confirm it. If you go to customers rather than them coming to you, a service-area listing is the right setup, and we set it up correctly so you compete without breaking the rules.
Can you get more reviews for our profile?
We set up a simple, rule-following way of asking so genuine customers find it easy to leave a review, and we reply to every one. We do not buy, pay for or fake reviews. Those break Google's rules and can get your whole listing suspended, which is a poor trade for a short-term boost.
Our profile was suspended. Can you help?
Yes. We work out the likely cause, whether that is a rule problem, a suspicious edit or a verification issue, fix what set it off and handle the request to get it reinstated. Google never guarantees you will get it back, but a careful, rule-following appeal gives the best chance of doing so.
Do you manage multiple locations?
Yes, whether that is several branches or a business that covers a region by visiting customers. Each location is handled as its own proper listing with the correct details and areas covered, not one listing stretched across a map, because that is what actually ranks and stays ranked.
How does this fit with the rest of our local SEO?
The listing is one part of being visible locally. It works best alongside genuinely relevant local pages on your website, matching details across the web, and local coverage. We run your Google listing as part of that wider local SEO picture rather than on its own.
